Electrical Engineer Job Duties:
Electrical engineers perform some or all of the following duties:
Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery
Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for electrical systems and equipment
Confirms system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties.
Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components; soliciting observations from operators.
Design electrical circuits, components, systems and equipment
Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.
Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Conduct micro or
nanodevices simulations, characterization, process modeling and integration in the development of new devices and products
Supervise and inspect the installation, modification, testing and operation of electrical systems and equipment
Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical systems and equipment
Investigate electrical failures
Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for construction or maintenance
Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers.
Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting repair service.
Maintains product data base by writing computer programs; entering data.
Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Electrical engineers may specialize in a number of areas including electrical design for residential, commercial or industrial installations, electrical power generation and transmission, and instrumentation and control systems.
